Sorry for the gallery view for the demonstration - next time I'll be sure to spotlight my camera so the image is bigger. We will be many more demonstrations throughout the entire series.

Christopher Azzara - Improvisation Tedx Talk
The following three videos are Chris Azzara talking about improvisation. Chris teaches at Eastman (partially retired) and is a huge name in regard to Music Learning Theory and Improvisation. The first video is the one I referred to in the afternoon lecture. All three of these videos are well worth the watch.

Resources
Books on Music Learning Theory
The Ways Children Learn Music by Eric Bluestine
This is an easy read - easier than reading Gordon's writing. Eric breaks MLT down in a way that is easier to understand. I had shared the one chapter with you - Rhythm Syntax. Some of the things says wouldn't necessarily be exactly considered MLT but overall, it is worth reading. I know this was one of the first books I read and then moved to the others.
Item # G-5480 $17.95 USD (GIA Publications) Here is the direct link to the book: https://www.giamusic.com/store/resource/ways-children-learn-music-book-g5480elSearchTerm=Bluestine
Music Learning Theory for Newborn and Young Children - 2013 edition by Edwin E. Gordon
This explains Preparatory Audiation. While this is a very good book, it is a dense book. I would recommend you buy the Music Play book first (see below) and then read this book. This is more detailed than the Music Play and really explains Preparatory Audiation in detail.
Item #: 6-3487 $28.95 USD - GIA Publications. Here is the direct link to the book:

Learning Sequences in Music - 2012 Edition by Edwin E. Gordon
This is considered "the" book on MLT. Very thorough, very dense reading. Gordon's writing isn't the easiest to read, but this is really the master of all his books in regard to MLT.
Item #: G-2345 $44.50 USD - GIA Publications. Here is the direct link to the book:

Music Moves for Piano Books
For those wanting to buy books for teaching piano, these books will get you started.
You can order the above books directly from Marilyn, she gives a discount to teachers. I also see that as of right now she is having a sale on. You can access her website at: https://www.musicmovesforpiano.com/home/
As I mentioned before, if you order these, once you get them, give me a shout and I can help you coordinate these, or if there are a few interested then we could spend half a day together to go through them).
For those wanting to buy books for teaching piano, these books will get you started.
- Keyboard Games A - these will work well for 5 yos. This more about keyboard geography, building a good playing technique, and acculturation.
- Keyboard Games B - these will work well for 5 and 6 yos. This more about keyboard geography, building a good playing technique, and acculturation.
- Keyboard Games Teacher's Guide - you will need the teacher's guide, you can't teach this without the teacher's guide.
- Music Moves for Piano Student Book 1 - designed for 6 yo, however, if you have an older student you can start them in Unit 10, as you do go back and review the previous units. I started a 10 yo in this (at Unit 10) in September of this year and we are now in Book 2, so depending on the student you can move quickly.
- Music Moves for Piano Teacher's Guide 1 - again you can't teach this without the teacher's guide.
- Rhythm and Tonal Patterns from the Pattern CD - these are for the pattern instruction (formal instruction or LSA)
- Pattern CD - these are the patterns. I do get students to buy this and then I give them the links to the tracks on my Google Drive, which Marilyn has given me permission to do.

MLT Related Facebook Groups/Pages
These are the various MLT groups that I have liked/subscribed to. Some are more active than others.
MTL Canada: https://www.facebook.com/groups/824765130969255/
Currently we're pretty small but hopefully with time we'll grow and a way to connect to other Canadian teachers interested in MLT. There isn't a whole lot of activity on this page, yet.
ECM, EGM-MLT Teachers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ECM.EGM.MLT.Teachers/
This group is for Early Childhood Music & Elementary General Music Teachers who are implementing MLT into their curriculum. Often teachers will share resources, songs, etc.
Edwin E Gordon and Music Learning Theory for Piano Teachers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1980093678916335/
The initial intent of this group was meant as an introduction to piano teachers and MLT, however, some of the discussion gets pretty deep at times due to some of us who are on this page. If you do sign up, let them know you took a workshop with me.
Music Moves for Piano Teachers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/274742982632416/
This is specific to using Music Moves for Piano by Marilyn Lowe. If you do subscribe to this group do mention you took a workshop with me.
MLT Classroom Music Teachers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/245675515451058/
I will often get "ideas" from this page for teaching.
Jump Right In: The Instrumental Series: https://www.facebook.com/groups/140972842671503/
Probably followed by band teachers, etc, although I do find it of value to read the questions and comments, as all things MLT can be transferred to other instruments.
